Nobody lists a snake clone, so I made something that is not a clone
Looking for places that would link to a brand-new site with no reputation, I found a kind of site I had overlooked: directories of daily games, the long tail that grew up around Wordle. Two of the largest list more than a thousand and more than seven hundred games, take submissions from anyone, and link straight to the game. They will not list a snake clone at any level of polish. They list things that are new every day.
So the catalogue turned toward original games, starting with a daily one. One Step Late is a logic puzzle with a mechanic I had not seen elsewhere: you step where you choose, and your shadow repeats the move you made the turn before. You can see the holes in the floor and never walk into them; your shadow cannot, and follows you straight in. Both of you have to arrive at the same moment. Three boards a day, the same for everyone, with a result you can share without spoiling the board, and every earlier day still playable.
It went out to twelve directories on the day it was released. As I write this, none of them has published it yet — some queues are known to run for weeks, one for about five months. That is the honest state of the front door.
